In December 2014, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) issued a flu vaccine apology: This year’s flu vaccine doesn’t work! A week earlier the CDC had issued a warning, prompting Americans to take the flu vaccine if they haven’t already. Health officials said they had 160 million flu shots on the shelves and ready to go. While at the same time in Italy, an official investigation was launched after about a dozen people died within 48 hours of getting the flu shot. Their national health agency issued an immediate warning, saying DON’T take it”.
Confused?
So just the vaccine how effective is the flu vaccine?
CDC conducts studies each year to determine how well the flu vaccine protects against flu illness. While vaccine effectiveness can vary, recent studies show vaccine reduces the risk of flu illness by about 50% to 60% among the overall population during seasons when most circulating flu viruses are like the vaccine viruses.
What are factors that influence how well the vaccine works?
How well the flu vaccine works (or its ability to prevent flu illness) can range widely from season to season. The vaccine’s effectiveness also can vary depending on who is being vaccinated. At least two factors play an important role in determining the likelihood that flu vaccine will protect a person from flu illness: 1) characteristics of the person being vaccinated (such as their age and health), and 2) the similarity or “match” between the flu viruses the flu vaccine is designed to protect against and the flu viruses spreading in the community. During years when the flu vaccine is not well matched to circulating viruses, it’s possible that no benefit from flu vaccination may be observed.
We are increasingly concerned at how many government and private companies are encouraging their staff to get the flu vaccine. It is also free for the general public – but why? Many studies show that the vaccine just doesn’t work and actually results in people then getting the flu. Aren’t you are better to build up your immunity to help your body fight common ailments if you get them? And how can the vaccine help the body build up resistance when the vaccine is injected straight into your blood stream and goes straight to your brain?? This is not how the body fights a natural infection.
Furthermore, vaccines don’t just contain a particular strain of influenza viruses; a recent independent study showed that there is a dangerously high level of mercury in each shot.
