Ron and Bev Smith are dairy farmers at “Orana” , Fish Creek in Gippsland, Victoria. For the last 30 years and more they have worked hard to turn a challenging tract of land into a profitable biodynamic dairy farm. While raising 11 children they have applied the rules of nature to farm at first organically and now biodynamically. At the beginning Ron was like any other conventional farmer using an array of chemical fertilisers until they took toll on his health. How lucky he was as this challenge to his health forced him to seek ways to farm without relying on the accepted practice of relying on chemicals.
Ron and Bev now have great pleasure with their healthy farming lifestyle. Over the years they have discovered many simple yet effective ways to maintain and sustain their farm economically and productively. Focussing on restoring the balance to the soil flowed through naturally to benefit the animals, the plants and indeed themselves and their family.
It is a pleasure to witness the satisfaction gained through their ability to farm with such confidence as all flourishes around them. Everything works and fits in with the whole cycle of activity on the farm. Despite a very busy lifestyle, both Ron and Bev are community people, sharing themselves in the local community to support where they can and also sharing their vast bank of knowledge with many 100’s of farmers who visit from far and wide each year having heard of their farming reputation. Soon Ron and Bev will take up a new role of education.
This DVD is a step in this direction.
They realise that many farmers are in strife with lower fertility rates, poor compacted soils and lowered production and yields. They know that this can all be reversed quickly by farmers understanding the balance that they have achieved. Bev and Ron are passionate to help as many farmers as they can and to share the skills and insights they possess in order to farming in tune with nature.
