“We aim to control the ryegrass and other problem weeds by simply spraying one or two applications of glyphosate.
The Hauslers acquired land that was showing a problem with herbicide-resistant annual ryegrass. “We fallowed it last year and this season we have sown GT Scorpion,” Tim said.
“This same simple strategy allows us to quickly and effectively control weeds in other paddocks that start showing problems with weed control.”
This ‘simple strategy’ is not only costing a lot in time and money but it is also keeping Tim and Julia in a vicious cycle of having to add more chemical products every year just to keep the crops going. Are Tim and Julia aware that by spraying glyphosate billions of unseen soil microbes are killed and therefore has the potential to harm the life on their farm for many years to come? For despite Monsanto’s claims, glyphosate is residual as proved in the French High Court in October, 2009 and research has shown widespread damage to life including placental cells.
Tim said they had had no problems marketing Roundup Ready canola.
Fortunately for all Australian consumers and the future of life on earth as we know it, most farmers do not believe the claims by Monsanto. The majority of farmers see them as who they are: an international, self serving and greedy corporation intent on owning the food chain worldwide. Once this is achieved one wonders whether Tim would be so positive.
If one could take out a crystal ball, one sees Tim joining the farmers in US that are now having the unforeseen problems with giant weeds and failing production. Monsanto and other will have been exposed as no man’s friend. There will also be unprecedented health problems and just as the government said ‘No’ to the huge tax dollars generated by tobacco sales, the government will say no to GM food being sold to an unsuspecting public. Once the economic cost to the Government outweighs the income being poured into the research centres, the government will start turning the tables.
What will Tim do then with no market and contaminated crops and soils?
