Summary
Just when we thought things couldn’t get any more inspiring in Regen Ag, here comes Bruce with proven methods that will blow you away. The topics include…No Kill Cropping, Stress Free Stockmanship, Self Herding, Agroecology.
Here is the summary:
1. Layers of the landscape
Here is the summary:
1. Layers of the landscape
- 4 layers: Trees, Shrubs, Perennial Grasses, and Introduced Annual crops.
- Think up/down productivity, not across the land.
- Add specific plant “corridors”. eg saltbush corridors lead to faster grass growth, and are a good source of fodder.
- You can plant trees for carbon credits, while increasing yields on your farm. (Yep, not decrease due to less area of production, INCREASE due to better biology)
2. Grazing management: Bruce says we need to understand all 3 of these:
- Time control.
- Holistic management grazing.
- Fodder budgeting.
3. Stress free stockmanship
Unstressed animals eat more variety of food, and are confident to explore more of the paddock. The benefits.
- Performance up 34%
- Medication down 90%
- Reproduction up 12%
4. No kill cropping.
This pasture cropping is taken to a new level. It is amazing to see what Bruce’s 13 year old son achieved with this method.
5. Self Herding.
A method of getting livestock to change their habits by choice NOT by force. The results are that the animals make better use of the resources available to them…by their own choices.
