Mushrooms are a favourite topic for Dr. Mary Cole and this shows as she mischievously relates her tales from the ages. From a very early age, Mary grew up listening to her father as he showed her which mushrooms to collect for their dinner. Mary has continued this early fascination and her curiosity has led to a deep knowledge of the world of mushrooms. As her passion has remained, fascination with the history of mushrooms grew as she discovered many references to mushrooms depicted in art and in early writings And so in Mushrooms; Myths and Legends we hear not only of the strange effect that the hallucinatory powers of mushrooms have had in shaping our history, we also reap Mary’s knowledge in how to avoid the sometimes fatal result of not knowing which mushrooms are safe to eat! You will be surprised how difficult this is. There are many interesting facts in this presentation. One such fact is how they are used to measure the presence of radiation today in Chernobyl and Japan.
